Terry O'Sullivan in memoriam

Updated: Aug 28, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry O’Sullivan, Co-chair of the RRA. Terry was an extraordinary resource and dynamic advocate for our community and its efforts in dealing with our significant growing pains. His legal expertise and thoughtful strategies played a major role in many of the RRA’s accomplishments over the past few years. We extend our sincere condolences to his family. We will miss him.

TERRENCE JOSEPH O'SULLIVAN

1947 - 2022

Terry died peacefully on August 19, 2022. He is sadly missed by his wife of 40 years, Corey Simpson; his daughters, Claire (Michael Martinez) and Maura; his sisters, Maureen (Vince Sguigna), Joanne (John Routh) and Erin (Richard Windolf); his grandsons, Lucas and Nicolas Martinez; and his many friends. He was predeceased by his loving sister, Nicole (Gordon Paul). Terry grew up as part of a warm and lively family in Campbellford Ontario, where he played hockey, baseball and several other sports - plus a lot of pranks. He found fun in most everything he did. Terry practiced law for almost 50 years, building a storied career and legacy of mentorship. He appreciated having the opportunity to represent a broad spectrum of clients, many of whom became friends, in all levels of court including, on numerous occasions, at the Supreme of Canada. Terry's enthusiasm for life lifted us all and his trademark wit made us smile. He cared deeply for others and over the years he generously gave his time and leadership talents to many good causes including the Advocates' Society, the Women's College Hospital Foundation, Toronto Rehab Institute, and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Foundation where he volunteered for many years, even after his cancer diagnosis. Terry's love for his family was limitless. He supported and encouraged them at every turn and took great pleasure in spending time with all his relatives on family trips, on the golf course, watching the Blue Jays or just chatting on the porch. He was very proud of his daughters and enamoured with his grandsons. His affection and regard were similarly extended to his many dear friends. We wish to thank the health care providers at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center and Princess Margaret Hospital for their skillful and compassionate care of our beloved Terry. The Campbellford memorial gathering will be held at Weaver Funeral Home on Friday, August 26, from noon to 2:00 p.m. The Toronto memorial gathering will be held at the Arcadian Court, 401 Bay St. on Thursday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. Masks are requested. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terry's memory to the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Foundation.
